Monetization plans for the decision-making system
We have identified two categories of monetization for the system that we’re building:
- Sell services.
- Sell tools.
The “Sell services” category involves helping managers make better decisions for their companies. The process would look like this:
- The manager sits down with the facilitator (a person from our company).
- The manager states the decision problem.
- The facilitator formalizes the problem, asking questions if the original description doesn’t contain the crucial details.
- Both facilitator & the manager propose options (potential solutions to a decision problem).
- The program written by the facilitator evaluates the decisions, giving out the best one.
It is possible that the session will be scheduled for too little time to make a complete decision. This is expected, since the most important decisions are not trivial. However, the manager still needs to leave with some results. The results of each session will be the updates to the program that makes the decisions.
Since this program can also be used to generate tasks to employees, eventually the manager will be able to replace him/herself with the code co-written by the manager him/herself and our facilitator.
Note that this program must be readable by the manager — he/she must be able to double-check it and verify that it is written correctly. This is why we’re currently thinking about Baselang — a language for writing specifications. Its crucial advantage over other programming languages is readability — it allows to omit all technical details, leaving only the logic itself.
The “Sell services” category is relatively easy to start with, because it’s an inherently 1-on-1 work process. Our differentiation from other companies providing similar services will be the use of a formal language (Baselang). Instead of talking, we’ll write code during the sessions. This code can be used as a dynamic task management system for automating the business.
The “Sell services” category can be productized with a framework for building task management systems (utilizing the knowledge we’ve gained so far). This would allow us to implement custom systems faster while still charging for the utility that they’re bringing.
The “Sell tools” category becomes viable if our solution is widely used by other consultants to provide similar services. They will need a way to write quickly during the meeting when they are paid by the hour, so they will naturally look for tools that give them an edge over competitors. We can provide extensions for IDEs that facilitate this speedwriting.
