Open Source Token
Our society relies on open source software. Every well-known blockchain is open source. Most servers run an open source operating system of the Linux family. Open source software is critical for our infrastructure.
But there’s a big problem — open source developers are underpaid. Some developers continue working because of ideological reasons. Some do it just for fun. Lots of people could have become open source developers but skipped this path precisely because it was underpaid.
We can solve this problem with the “Open Source Token” — a token that redistributes a portion of the fees to the open source developers.
We can use the Fairpool contract to launch the OST, and ask the developers to place a referral link in their software. This way, many people who use open source software on a daily basis would notice the link to the token, click it & read about the token.
OST is very different from Patreon & GitHub Sponsors in a crucial way: the token buyers may actually make more money than they spend. It’s not just a one-way donation. We hope the volume will be much higher & the resulting referral fees will be much higher than donations, too.
Note that developers will receive the referral fee only from those users that buy through their reflink. In the future, we may implement a function that would allow the user to change his referral address, or even set up a multi-referral-distribution schema (to donate to multiple developers).
