Tax report
It sounds crazy, but we’re still working on the tax report.
We’ve built a data pipeline for downloading transactions from the blockchain and parsing them into transfers. However, we’ve realized that some contract calls perform so-called “internal” transfers, and there is no way to get those internal transfers from the transaction history alone. So we realized that we have to reimplement the pipeline using Etherscan API instead, which is different from the regular JSON-RPC API we’ve used initially.
Before diving into the reimplementation, we wanted to check whether any existing apps could help us. Last time we checked, they weren’t up to the task, but maybe they got upgraded since last year.
So right now we’re taking a second round evaluating existing apps for filing crypto taxes. So far, we’ve found literal bugs in two apps (they didn’t account for self-transfers properly).
We’ve also connected with our accountant to make sure that the document format produced by the apps is correct.
Really hoping to get the report done soon, and to get back to real work.
